No 33: Practical Rescue Management Course

Following the success of the recent oxygen admin course we ran within the branch I am now proposing that we run a practical rescue management (PRM)course, dates yet to be confirmed. The course will be over two days, day one up here in Woking (hopefully using the same venue as for the oxygen course) and day two at another (hopefully coastal) location for a day of rescue management exercises. The course will also allow for three elements towards dive leader to be signed off as well as members gaining some valuable experience in casualty handling and incident management. Whilst no diving is required for this course full open water scuba will be necessary for day two.

You will also be pleased to know that the course does not have a final written assessment, but candidates will be assessed throughout the weekend by a team of highly qualified instructors (you know who you are!).

I anticipate costs for the two days to be in the region of fifty –sixty pounds, that will include packs, room hire, fuel (if we use the RIB), sadly we’ll not be able to provide lunch but tea and biccies will be on hand!

It is a really enjoyable course, open to sports divers and above, and you will get a lot out of it so please let me know at my email address below if you are interested.

No 13: Diver rescue lesson and oxygen admin award

Hi All,

In advance of both the oxygen course on the 28th April and the upcoming dive season, we will be presenting ST2 diver rescue on Thursday the 19th April at 8pm. This will be open to all. Our presenter for the evening will be Grahame Walker who will take us through the delights of prevention and rescue techniques, this will be followed by practical sessions on basic life support ably supervised by a number of OWIs. This is offered as a refresher session to the whole club and the practical skills presented (not the actual lecture) can also be applied outside of the diving environment so please feel free to invite family and friends.

This will be a good pre course activity for anyone that wants to attend the oxygen admin course on the 28th, I have as yet had only one email response for the oxygen course, I need to know how many people want to do the course so that I can order the student packs for you. I do have a list of names from Thursday night but if I didn’t catch you please email me if you’d like to attend.

Anyone that already has an oxygen admin qualification is welcome to attend but you only actually need a refresher. I do have a course syllabus and presentations for oxygen admin refreshers that could be run over two consecutive Thursdays if anyone is interested. The only prerequisite for this course is that you already have the oxygen admin award.

Please let me know which of these courses you wish to attend via email me or phone me.
