I am running a midweek dive to Swanage on Wednesday 31 August 2011 on the Swanage Dive Charters boat “Mary Jo” which I hope some of you will be able to join me.
The dives that we will do will depend on the grades of the divers who attend. However, as I would like this trip to help me complete my Dive Leader qualification it is essential that at least one OWI would be willing to come to assess my organisational skills. If we can have a couple of OWIs then we will have the opportunity to offer some of our trainees exposure to the world of hard boat diving or Ocean Divers working towards Sports Diver (I already have one OD so max depth will be limited to 20 metres). Obviously the sites chosen will reflect the experience of the participants.
For example, The Peveril Ledge extends outwards from the end of Peveril point. It is made up of large rocks and boulders and can be quite colourful. Depths vary between 14 and 20 metres due to the rocky bottom that has eroded to create gullies, look for the cuttlefish, wrasse, crabs, anenomes & plaice or The Tanville Ledge is a rocky reef, again quite colourful. It is situated within Swanage bay. The depth is approximately 10 metres. Alternatively there is the Valentine tanks at 15 metres or The Fleur de Lys which is located just inside Swanage Bay at about 13 metres.
The cost will be approximately £20 per dive (max of 2) from the boat or we make the second one a paddle under the pier but we can take a consensus from those going.
Places available will depend on the cross section of qualifications of those attending so can only be confirmed once I know who wants to go. I do need to book places on the boat so I would appreciate an early expression of interest if you would like to go. Please reply by next Wednesday and I will be able to have a more detailed proposed plan and timings for club night for approval by those attending.
